It's really a misnomer.  We tried having a dedicated schoolroom in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I was ready to have a stiff drink by the time we got done with school having all of us cooped up in that tiny bedroom.  So, we just slowly incorporated most of the house into our homeschooling.

Most of our school is done on the floor.  They read on the floor, they listen on the floor, they color on the floor...they like the floor.  My only rule is that if they don't write neatly while they're on the floor, they have to move to a table.
One of the things I like is the dining room table that Dave's uncle decoupaged for us.  I wanted a permanent world map on the table, so he just used decoupage for the map and polyurethane over the top.  We use wipe-off markers on it all the time and they wipe right off!

I'd been struggling with what to do with all the kids' books.  The little kids had their own desks, but the big kids never sat at them, anyway (remember the floor discussion, above?).

and for WHATEVER reason, they just COULD NOT keep their books on the shelves! After extensive research (i.e. asking all my friends) I discovered their kids couldn't put books away standing up on shelves, too!  So I needed to get something that would hold regular sized books.   I got plastic boxes from Target for $1 and that's where they keep the ones that they use. (the boxes are in the top of the picture above my head)

Just to round out the topic of where we do school, I asked my husband to pose in my usual place during school...

We don't really have a "schoolroom", anymore.  It just didn't work for us.  But here are some people that do (and they're houses are cleaner than mine).  http://www.ollhomeschoolresources.com/homeschool_photos.htm
