School Song

Home our story New to Hs'ing? Child Training Curriculum X-Curricular

Every school (home or not) should have mission statement - something you stand for - something you're striving for - put down in words.  When the kids have been whining & fighting and you're feeling quite whiney yourself, you need a reason to get up tomorrow and do it again.  Our goals are written in our school song.

My husband wrote these lyrics our first month of homeschooling. The tune he used is "The Servant Song" by Richard Gillard.  If you want to hear the tune, simply search in your favorite search engine and type in "Servant Song".

Each of my first graders learn this song.  It says a lot about what the priorities of our family is about.  We also really like the idea that our school song is a prayer.

If the song fits your school, feel free to  modify it as needed (e.g., change "Highland Dove" to "Our Homeschool" or the name of your school).  Permission granted for personal use only. All rights reserved.

Mother, Father, Sister, Brother
Highland Dove will help us see
Love of learning, hearts are yearning
To be part of God’s family.

Mighty, God, we pray now to you
In our weakness, you are strong
Teach us truth and perseverance
Till all doubt and fear are gone.

Serving Jesus is our purpose.
Lord, our friend, we welcome you.
Teach us service, trust, and virtue
To care for others as you do.

Holy Spirit, breathe upon us.
Teach us gentleness and peace,
Patience, kindness, love for others,
Till all bitterness does cease.

Abba Father, Jesus, Brother
Gentle Spirit, show your love
We dedicate our learning to you
And offer up our Highland Dove.
Amen.
