Narnia Study Questions for each book in the series: http://www.love2learn.net/literature/studyquestions/narnia.htm
The Magician's Nephew Serve food that is in the book. (Candy Apples for the golden apples, etc.) Divide the kids into 2 teams. Have a posterboard with cards that have numbers 10-100 in increments of 10 on each. Example one card would say in large numbers 40. Another may say 70. On the back of the card is a discussion question. Both teams have to decide on an answer (one child can't blurt out the answer) and the first team to get the question right, gets the points. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Divide kids into 2 teams; Susan & Peter's Team / Lucy & Edmond's Team. We took stuffed animal dogs and pretended they were wolves, wrapped empty boxes with brown paper sacks for Mr. Tumnus' packages, umbrella, scarf, stuffed animal lion, a little bottle of juice for cordial, and other miscellaneous household items to represent props in the book. We showed all the children the items, then had one person from each team hide the items around the house and had a treasure hunt. We used a feather duster for the witch's wand and asked each child what animal from Narnia they wanted to be. One person was the witch and one was Aslan. They played a version of freeze tag when they got tapped with the witch's wand and Aslan would unfreeze them by breathing on them. Prince Caspian In a bowl are cards with a character name from the book. Blindfold a child and they select a card from the bowl. The child reads the card and the child had to tell the history of that person without revealing the name. Sometimes there were 2 names on a card and you had to describe the relationship or how they treated each other for all the kids to guess what name(s) were on the card. Voyage of the "Dawn Treader" Have a mat (like a sheet) with some of the kids standing on it with boxes around the outside. "Sail" to each island, ask the kids what happend, and if they pick up people or drop off people at different islands, have them join or leave the "ship." Tie everyone's legs together and have them jump like monopeds. The Silver Chair Tie one person to a chair, and each person takes a turn trying to untie Prince Rilan. Make up a dance for the "winter dance" and everyone dances in character (how would an owl dance, etc.), and one person hides as Jill to ask for help. Everyone stops dancing to help rescue the explorers. Even as they walk to help, they have to walk in character (how would a horse, squirrel walk?). The Horse and His Boy Have 2 boys and 2 girls be Aravis, Shasta, Bree & Whin and have a great race with everyone else trying to catch them. If you tag one of the 4 principal characters, you become that character racing away. The Last Battle Have tissue paper balls that you throw up and allow them to fall down like the stars falling out of the sky. or - tie a plastic grocery sack around each person's waist and as the stars fall, they have to try and catch them in their bags without using their hands. Discuss "If you could write more books like C.S. Lewis about the New Narnia, what would you write?" or- draw a picture of what you think the New Narnia looks like |
