Why I put this on my website... Club Explanations Volunteer Requirements
How can I do something as crazy as this? Cost Ages

Why I put this on my website...

I put all this information on my website, so that it might inspire someone to try something similar.  The library we used had a large meeting room with a wipe-off board & a smaller classroom that we utilized for the club at no cost.  This helped keep the cost down.  Many of the supplies were donated by members or carefully purchased at Back To School Sales.  We had approximately 30 families sign up with about 75 kids.

How can I do something as crazy as this?

Thinking through the organization of something like this can seem overwhelming.

Pray
bullet

"O.K., God, this whole homeschooling thing is your idea, so you'll have to come up with a way to keep us home enough to get school done without me feeling like I'm in prison or the kids getting cabin fever."

bullet

You just start with a shell of an idea.
bullet

"I'd like my kids to have all their activities on Wednesday"

bullet

Get a trustworthy friend involved.
bullet

Heather (the master mind of this) said, "Hey, Jenn, would you like to organize a once-a-week co-op that had a nice variety of activities?"

bullet

Brainstorm about your dream activities
bullet

"It has to involve all my ages of kids so some don't feel left out."

bullet

"It has to be academically challenging enough for each age that I feel good about not doing our curriculum that day"

bullet

"It has to be fun enough that I don't have to fight with the kids about going."

bullet

Let it grow from there and find a spot for each idea.
bullet

"What if we have an opportunity for the kids to get used to speaking in front of a group?  I've heard other moms wishing for the same thing.  Where can we put that?"

bullet

Rely on your strengths
bullet

"Here at the end of school, my creativity is GONE.  I don't think I can write any lesson plans, yet, but I'll make the fliers and keep track of sign-ups."

bullet

Set deadlines to keep yourself accountable
bullet

"I'm overwhelmed with all this today, so let's get together in 3 weeks and we'll each have one club mapped out as far as a schedule."

bullet

Ask for help & keep people informed
bullet

"This is an e-mail to all the moms who signed up for the Library Club.  We'll need some of the supplies donated.  Please let me know if you can donate an item or two of the following..."

bullet

Pray
bullet

"Whoa, God!!  I'm seriously stressed and overwhelmed, but everyone seems excited about this.  If you want this all to come off, you're going to have to pull it off, because it seems like a lot to me..."

Each week is a different “club”. Sign up for 1, 2, 3 or 4
clubs / month

Week 1 of each month is Academics Club

Week 2 of each month is Travel Club

Week 3 of each month is Game Club

Week 4 of each month is Book Club

Cost : $5 per family
This cost is not dependent upon how many children in a family or how many clubs you join.  It is a flat cost per family for the year for joining one or all of this homeschool co-op.  This needs to be brought to the first club you attend and given to our Treasurer.

Parent Volunteer Requirements:

This is a co-op, so, each mom will be needed to fill volunteer positions for the weeks you have children signed up for.  For example, if you don't have a child signed up for a club on week 3 of the month, you won't be scheduled to volunteer then.

You may, however, be scheduled to coordinate an age group that your child isn't in during a week your children ARE signed up for.  For example, if your preschool children are signed up for week 2, we may have you teach the week 2 elementary club.

More information on scheduling considerations is posted on the Expectations Page of this website.

You select which group your child participates in each week :

Natives : Preschoolers - 1st grade

Pioneers : 1st grade - 4th grade

Explorers : 4th grade - 7th grade

We welcome teens in grades 8-12 to volunteer. They can tutor or mentor a child or lead a group. Hours a teen volunteers will documented for their records and can be used to supplement a High School Transcript.
