Sources for Home School Sources or Sources For Your Sources

The home school movement is quickly becoming a trend among parents everywhere. Parents appreciate the fact that they are in charge of their child’s intellectual success and the fact that they can spend more time with them. Still, though, there are many concerns among parents considering home schooling. One of those concerns is the fact that they are unsure of where to find resources to assist them in the daily home schooling tasks. This is a general outline that may help the home school parent find resources.

Home School Resource: Bookstores

Bookstores carry a lot of books that can help in the home school curriculum. There are many core curriculum series, encyclopedias, dictionaries and more that can help build skills and reinforce skills that have previously been established.

Bookstores have such a wealth of topics and subjects to choose from that this is one of the top recommendations from home school parents. Local stores are usually very convenient to get to, and often, may even have a used book section or a bargain section where you can save money as well.

In some areas, there may also be a magazine store. There are some magazines that provide a list of merchants that specialize in different educational materials. This can be beneficial in that it is a lot less time consuming to look up a particular choice, order it and know what you are getting.

Home School Resource: Internet

Another excellent resource for educational material is the internet. There are thousands upon thousands of sites that provide curriculums, coloring pages, maps and many other resources that are age and subject appropriate. In addition to the wealth of websites, you can even find sites that will give you free items for your home school curriculum.

Just recently, I visited the Scholastic website and was sent over twenty various Scholastic Magazines that came with large posters, coloring sheets and curriculum work pages for items covered in the magazines. Not only did it allow me to decorate my child classroom that we have in the home, but it made for many exciting projects and conversations. Other items that I have received free as a home school parent are free writing utensils, Braille cards, soft soap samples and antibacterial wipes.

Home School Resource: Library

Another wonderful resource is the Library. Not only do they have wonderful books for you and your child to enjoy, but often they have programs for children too. They may have local reading programs, shows and more. They usually always have resources that you can use in your home school curriculum like movies, audio books and computer software. Often, Libraries will do away with old books and sell them very cheaply and/or give them away for free. This will allow your home school student to get access to a lot of informational and fun products at a fraction of the cost!

Home School Resource: Other Home School Families

If you know another parent who has home schooled their children, they may have and be willing to share a wide range of products and materials to assist you. A lot of home school parents use the barter system in order to gain as much exposure to educational material as possible without having to exceed their finances.

Home School Resource: Your Own Home

Another place where you can find materials to use in your home school program is right inside your own home! You can use a variety of things that you have set aside to assist in the learning process. Some examples would be old buttons and fabrics for projects, old toilet paper and paper towel tolls, cans, containers and old recipes!

Just about anywhere and everywhere there are materials that can assist in educating your child. All it takes is a little imagination!
