Home School Approval

While everyone agrees that an education is very important and holds the utmost value in our society, there are often various opinions and arguments on the best and proper way to educate properly. Most people assume that methods of education, such as the traditional school system are the best form. However, there are some parents who insist that the home school environment is the best approach to a successful education.

There is a wide array of reasons that a parent may choose to home school their children. There may be religious beliefs that would more easily be instilled in the child that is schooled in the home. There could be underlying medical conditions that require personal attention. The parents may not approve of the curriculum used in their local. Or the parents may simply choose to take the responsibility of educating their children personally.

The decision to teach your children, or have a personal tutor to come in and teach your children in a home school environment is a very important decision. As a parent in the home school environment, you will be responsible for ensuring that your child has the resources needed to succeed. You will be taking responsibility for their intellectual maturity.

As with any decision, it is very important that you properly evaluate all of your options and resources before taking the final plunge into home school. In each and every State there is a list on mandated laws and standards that apply to the home school environment. These laws can usually be found in your State Statutes. These laws have been compiled as a result of past legal issues arising from home school situations, local and state educational standards as well as many other officials outlining what is expected.

When you decide to home school your child, it is very important that you seek the standards that are outlined in your State. There are some states, for example, that require a parent to notify the government of the state that they plan on educating their child in a home school environment. If this is not performed as specified per law, the parent could face legal issues for truancy and so on.

Some states require the parent to submit documentation of an intended curriculum for the school year that the student will be following. Other states require parents to be qualified or accredited with certain standards. In addition, the state may also request permission from the parent to enter the home in which the student will be educated for evaluation purposes. If you home school your child, some states may require keeping detailed records and examples of work throughout the school year to verify the child is indeed being instructed as outlined and according to mandated standards. Some states are very easy to home school in and rely on the parent to responsibly provide for an adequate education for their child.

For a parent who decides to home school their child, it is very important to find out the laws that govern your state in this area. In addition to making sure that the child is on the right level and being credited for their curriculum, the state may have some wonderful resources that would assist the parent in their endeavor.
