Home Up ViceVirtue Sunday Allowance Chores Carpe Diem

This is our list that the kids are supposed to check when they're done with all their school and chores, have been told no to TV and Wii, and aren't allowed to say the words "I'm bored" (or they get a job to do.)  They do have to ask permission for what they select.  It usually takes them 20 minutes to read through the list and 10 to decide what to do.

* Make up a game using the 20 Mysteries of the Rosary

*Ride Bikes - put streamers on your bikes

*Read a book (while standing on your head)

* Bake cookies

*read about science & do an experiment

*do a chore to earn extra credit

*color with crayons, pencils, markers

*make jewelry out of macaroni

*Paint a night shirt with designs, stretching it over cardboard & taping it down & let dry.

Be an entomologist - catch, cage & draw all the bugs in your back yard

* Practice Jump rope or Chinese jump rope

* Look in the Games Book for ideas

*draw on paper or wipe-off board

*weave loops - make pot holders

*write a letter in code (letters in reverse order or A=M, B=N or A=@, B=*)

*play Barbies

*work on traveling scrapbook

*sewing or crochet

*be a teacher to your siblings

*get tubes or skinny boards & time which tube, angle, or car goes fastest

*Play a game of Balloon Tennis! This is a great game for toddlers. Glue a wooden paint stick to a paper plate to form the racket.

* make up your own calendar Holidays : July 13 - kiss your dogs ear day / August- be kind to your socks month...make sure they always have their match. / May 5- Eat dessert first day. / June 12, Purple and black day.

* Make Popsicles

*author & illustrate your own book - When you're done, we'll scan it, print it & bind it

*create your own city - the perfect play area for those cars, trains and play people. Use a vinyl tablecloth with felt backing to draw roads, houses, parks, schools, etc., with permanent markers. Or cut out pieces of felt in the shape of lakes, trees, animals and people.

*Talk on the Phone : Aunt Sara, Aunt Laura, Papa Joe, Grandma Jan, cousins, friends, babysitter

* Cut and play with paper dolls - design your own clothes

* Make homemade flour & water paste & cut magazines

* Tape a big sheet of paper to floor & trace around child - color in

* What game can you create with ice trays & buttons

* Make a fort

* Play beanbag toss with a bowl

* Put a sheet on the floor, put wads of paper in it, shake the sheet & watch the popcorn "POP!"

* Play-doh

* Painting with food coloring in water & Q-tip

* Chalk on dark construction paper

* Paper punch & different colors of paper

* Stencils & pencils

*Big towel on floor, shallow bowl of water & boats

* Make a tunnel out of chairs, or a train

* Cup of soapy water & a straw to blow bubbles

* Use measuring tape - record results

* Arrange blocks by size, color or shape

* Make jewelry with cherios (masking tape on end)

* Make a mural

* Have a tea party

* Use soft squishy balls to play basketball

* Learn to count in other languages

* Play catch with balls of socks (have a snowball fight)

* Listen to music & dance while you balance a bean bag on your head

* String cheerios and hang in the trees for the birds

* Paint the swing set using water & paint brushes

* Count to 1,000

* Make an indoor obstacle course

*Have a race with Drew's cars

* Make astronaut shoes out of shoe boxes tied to your feet

* Draw a sidewalk chalk mural

* Blow bubbles

*Balloon Garden: Using a funnel, pour 1/2 cup of soil into a clear balloon. Hold the balloon firmly by the neck and add 1/4 cup of water to the soil. The soil should be wet, but not soggy. Next, pour seeds into the balloon (small plants such as a few sprout seeds or 2 radish seeds). Gently blow air into the balloon. When it's almost full, tie a knot in the neck without tipping the balloon. Tie a ribbon or a piece of kite string around the knot, and hang the balloon near a window. Watch your garden grow!

*Make tattoos with washable markers

*Chemical Balloon: Use a funnel to pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda into a clean glass soda or juice bottle. Next, pour in roughly 1/2 cup of vinegar. Stretch the neck of the balloon over the mouth of the bottle fast! Vinegar mixed with baking soda produces carbon dioxide gas, which fills the balloon.

*Muffin-Cup Flower Garden (Package of multi-colored paper muffin cups; construction paper; scissors; glue; green marker or pen) Fringe the muffin cups by cutting the edges toward the center to make petals. Spread glue on the bottom of fringed cups and press them onto a sheet of construction paper. Glue a whole muffin cup (different color) in the center of each fringed one. Then spread glue in the center of each whole cup. Glue a few small pieces of construction paper and press into the cups. Use a green pen or marker to draw the stems and leaves of your garden.

* Water colored with food coloring on coffee filter

* Put 3 objects in a bag, have boys touch and guess (no looking)

* Make a book of Tongue Twisters - Old oily Otto operates on old oily autos; Silly Sally sings songs sweetly; Roudy Rob wrestles rhinos while reading recipes.

* Lip Print Pictures (Paper; crayons; lipstick) Apply lipstick to yourself or your child, and kiss a piece of paper in the middle of the page. Have fun together drawing in the face and features around the lips.

*play keyboard (a song you know backwards)

*make cards (with your face on them?)

*Marble Painting (Clean coffee can; paper; tempera paint; 4 or 5 marbles; spoon) Fit a sheet of white paper into the coffee can (cut to fit if necessary). Place the marbles in different colors of paint. Use a spoon to place the painted marbles into the can. Replace the lid and shake the can. Pour the marbles out and remove your masterpiece!

* Sit in a circle and play Telephone

* Put on a play

* Make cup dolls using paper cups, scraps of material & "treasures"

* Make funny faces in the mirror

* Make hand shadows on the wall

* Put a sheet over a table & go camping in your tent

* Have a parade with musical instruments & hats made of newspaper

* Play "I Spy"

* Put a hula hoop on the floor & toss paper trash balls in

* Wrap your toys and have a Christmas party

* Have a bicycle/tricycle wash

* Learn a game from another country

* Do a shadow dance

* Decorate lunch bags to make puppets

* Learn your favorite song in sign language

* Go on a rock hunt

* Play store, use stickers to 'price' the pantry items

* Everyone have a backwards day with shirts

* Play pictionary

* Give your dolls a bath in a bowl of soapy water

* Plant a seed in a cup of dirt & watch it blossom

* Make pom poms from newspaper & make up cheers

* Make towers (checkers, boxes, shoes…)

* Cut the bottom off a milk jug & try and "catch" a ball someone throws to you

* Create a song with words about something special to you

* Use empty paper towel rolls as telescopes

* Put tape on the floor and do tricks on the balance beam

* Listen to patriotic music and have a band

* Watch a dance video and learn a new dance

* Have a color scavenger hunt.

* Play follow the leader, but the leader does exercises

* Clap out rhythms & have the others follow it

* Play "Same Thing Seek". Collect objects of 2's (blocks)

* Make a mummy out of your brother or dog

* Put a target on the wall. Throw bean bags at it

* Have a relay race - blowing cotton balls the farthest

* Make a block & car town on front porch

* Be airplanes and fly around outside

* Make a fort of snow bricks

* Mirror each other like an image

* Take a bubble bath

* Give pretend haircuts

* Put a leash on a stuffed animal & take them for a walk

* Put all the pillows in the house on the floor & climb the mountain

* Fill the sink with water & discover what sinks / floats

* Play dress up with your clothes on a stuffed bear

* Brush each other's teeth

* Use kitchen tongs to pick up items

* Make paper flowers & practice being a flower girl

* Decorate large paper bags to make costumes, like a policeman's jacket…

* Using foil make crowns, army of royal knights

* Squirt shaving cream in a plastic bag & mix food coloring

* Hide something & draw a treasure map

* Go on a smelling hunt in our house

*teach Maggie (the dog) to jump through a hula hoop

* Make a lacing toy for the little kids with plastic margarine lid

* Draw on mirror with wipe-off markers

*do latch-hook

* Write out a play, rehearse, make costumes, & I'll video it

* Look in a book & learn napkin folding
